Clear the Air: How Eskom’s coal kills

Video by Groundwork 2014

This video shows that people in the Highveld region of South Africa are disproportionately suffering from the health impacts due to pollution from the main electricity utility, Eskom’s coal fired power stations. To further exacerbate the problem, the Department of Environmental Affairs is currently considering an application from Eskom, the country’s’ biggest air polluter, to postpone meeting the country’s already air quality standards. This is in spite of recent research from the World Health Organisation that air pollution is responsible for one in eight deaths globally.
